The Cheerleaders (1973)

The Cheerleaders (1973)

A year after the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders bumped up the sexy factor, The Cheerleaders capitalized on the idea of cheerleaders sexing opposing teams into submission. Of course, they “accidentally” have an orgy with their own team before the big game. They then have to try oversex the other team to tire them out so they can win the big high school game! It is a really simplistic plot that sets up all of the sex comedy and cheerleading tropes you’ve come to expect from a film about cheerleading made in the 1970s.

The Dungeonmaster (1984)

Charles Band didn’t just make smutty erotic musicals. He also made sci-fi and fantasy films with animatronics. It Makes sense that he would go on to make a million Puppetmaster movies. Several of the key people behind his productions helped create this anthology sci-fi flick. I loved it because the idea of a computer on my arm was super cool. I loved anything that had a computer in it, and an AI computer that lived in his glasses and then on his wrist were the predecessors to Google Glass and the Apple Watch. I wish my Apple Watch could change traffic lights, though. Oh, and shoot lasers to fight creatures across multiple stories.

Dirty Duck (1974)

Surreal adult cartoons were a thing in the 1970s and nothing quite defines this weird period in film history quite as well as Dirty Duck. A complete loser wants to sex up a woman at work, but he cannot figure out the right way to approach her. So a rather dirty duck befriends him and they go on a surreal adventure filled with lesbians, giant police officers, and really weird transgressive imagery.

Night of the Demons (1988)

Freaky punk goth girl Angela invites a group of misfit teens to the legendary Hull House to party it up with the evil spirits on Halloween night, but they get more than they bargained for when the demons actually start picking them off and possessing them.

Sadomania / Hellhole Women (1981)

Jesus Franco proves once again that he is the king of sleeze with Sadomania. What starts as a women in prison flick ends up with rape, bestiality, and an impotent governor trying to seduce women while his wife just wants his baby. The warden was played by a trans actress Ajita Wilson, which was quite a bit ahead of its time.

Five musical moments in non-musical films

I love a good musical. Who am I kidding, I love a bad musical, too. But I think I like musical surprises even more. I like it when there is a strange, full-on musical moment in a film that is otherwise not a musical. Like Britany Snow's character, Bobby-Lynne, singing...

Quick Take: Pieces (1982)

Pieces from 1982 is a chainsaw revving good time. With a heavy-handed nod to the gallo movement, Pieces tries to set up a convincing and shocking storyline, but loses its thread somewhere along the line. But do not judge it for that. When the tagline is "You don't...

Quick Take: Deadly Eyes (1982)

Deadly Eyes from 1982 is a movie about weiner dogs masquerading as rats to terrorize Toronto while teenagers try to seduce their teacher who in turn tries to seduce the health inspector trying to get to the bottom of things. It's a fun big rat movie that is 100% goofy.
